Low Level Laser Therapy - LLLT Low level Laser Therapy (LLLT) commonly refers to the use of low powered laser light, in the range of 1-1000mW, at wavelengths from 632nm – 904nm to stimulate a biological response. The laser light is a form of photonic energy that is absorbed by the tissues of the body, stimulating their metabolic processes. There have been many new advancements in photo-biostimulation and many new forms have been emerging. The use of LED's with wavelengths from as low as 395nm - 435nm have started to emerge, especially in the cosmetic industry for the killing of Bacteria from acne cases and in the water purification industry to kill micro-organisms such as viruses, bacteria, and fungus. This is commonly know as ultra-violet purification. The advantages or effects of Low Level Laser Therapy have been recorded by many companies and independent testing groups with both clinical trials and double blinded studies. Here are a few examples of the effects recorded.
The effectiveness of Laser and LED stimulation has been noted to have different effects on different tissue groups and depths based on the lasers wavelength and power. There are also 2 common laser types:
